Mudlark

MUDLARKING!

Since my childhood years I have had a fascination for beachcombing, especially on my annual summer holidays during which I spent hours wandering the Dorset and East Anglia coast looking for fossil and shells.

I moved to London in the 1980s and one evening I had an opportunity to visit the Thames foreshore with friends.

I noticed and collected a few blue and white transferware shards.

I left London and returned a few years later and revisited the Thames foreshore. I found claypipes and more shards.......

The rest is history!

I am privileged to have a standard permit from the Port of London (PLA) to mudlark in accordance to their terms and conditions. All my finds are 'By eye' - It has taken me awhile to 'home in' my skills to locate some interesting finds - Some of which I've taken to the Museum of London and formally identified by the Finds Liaison Officer (FLO) and recorded on their database. The finds are usually returned to me whereby I can exhibit them for the public to see and enjoy discussing them.

I do keep a record of  the date and where I find the 'special finds' .

Taking a mobile image can assist with dates and localities.
